Science with a
Southern Touch

Peak UV about 40% above matching northern latitudes. Coastal wind.
Seasons that turn in an afternoon.
Most skincare is formulated for milder, more predictable conditions — and for a climate where sunscreen isn’t a daily baseline. Down here it is. That changes what a moisturiser has to be.

Down here, your moisturiser has
a second job.

New Zealand’s peak UV runs roughly 40% above equivalent northern latitudes — lower summer ozone, cleaner air, and an orbit that brings us closest to the sun in December (NIWA). Summer UV Index readings of 12 to 13 are normal in the north.

So sunscreen isn’t seasonal here. It’s daily, most of the year.

Which changes the job. Your moisturiser isn’t just hydration any more — it’s the layer underneath. It has to absorb fast, sit flat, and not pill through what goes on top. Most moisturisers are formulated in the Northern Hemisphere, where daily SPF isn’t the default. Ours wasn’t.

Your skin doesn’t need more aggressive actives. It needs a barrier that copes.

Two formulas. One job.

A lightweight gel for skin that runs normal to oily. A rich cream for skin that runs dry or reactive. Both built to hold hydration and sit well under sunscreen.

Formula 01

Barrier Balance

Water Gel Cream
Barrier Balance Water Gel Cream — elegant glass jar

Weightless, lasting hydration — no shine, no heaviness — for skin that needs to breathe and hold.

Formula 02

Barrier Resilience

Rich Cream
Barrier Resilience Rich Cream — opaque ceramic jar

Rich, lasting comfort for skin that needs to settle and stay.

Two formulas. Four questions.

Which one you need depends less on your skin type than on how your skin behaves — under summer sun, coastal wind, and a winter that’s damp rather than dry. Four questions, and we’ll tell you where to start.

Every ingredient, and why it’s there.

No proprietary blends. No undisclosed complexes. Full INCI on every product page, a plain explanation of what each active does, and — where we have it — where the evidence comes from.

Pentavitin®

Biomimetic Moisture Binder

Binds chemically to keratin rather than sitting on the surface, so it isn't simply washed away. Supplier testing shows hydration sustained up to 72 hours after one application.

Aquaxyl™

Moisture Circulation Complex

A xylitol-derived complex that supports the skin's own moisturising factors and lipid production while limiting water loss to the air. Independently benchmarked against urea in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Centella Asiatica

Calming Botanical

A traditional botanical with genuine modern research behind it. Helps visibly soothe redness and supports comfort in skin that's been exposed to sun or wind.

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3

One of the most studied ingredients in skincare. Supports the skin's own production of barrier lipids and has been shown to reduce transepidermal water loss in dry skin.

Betaine

Osmoprotectant

A naturally derived humectant that helps skin hold water as conditions shift — which, in a maritime climate that swings between 74% and 89% humidity across the year, they constantly do.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Deep Hydration Active

A skin-identical humectant that draws water into the upper layers of skin and helps hold it there. Visible plumping and comfort from first use.

Common Questions

Two hero formulas: Barrier Balance Water Gel Cream — a lightweight, all-season hydrator for normal to combination skin, and Barrier Resilience Rich Cream — a deeper, comfort-rich formula for dry and sensitive skin.

If your skin feels oily, balanced, or combination, start with Barrier Balance. If your skin regularly feels tight, dry, or reactive, Barrier Resilience is formulated for you. Find Your Formula for a personalised recommendation.

Both are designed to be gentle. We recommend a patch test on your inner forearm before first use. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, check with your GP or dermatologist first.

We'll publish the supporting documentation on this page as each confirmation comes through. Until it's in writing, we don't claim it.

We ship within New Zealand — flat rate $8 NZD, free on orders over $85. International shipping to Australia and beyond is planned for a future phase.
